Q: How can we inspire government officials to be more sincere?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Very simple. I was asked to inspire all the officers of the environment department. You know I just went and asked them, if your driver is not sincere, he doesn’t come on time, do you like it? They said no. If the milkman who comes to your door to deliver milk, if he is not regular would you like it? No. If the teacher who is teaching your kids in school, if they work like in the government office, without much interest, would you like it? They said no. I asked how many send their children to government school. Very few raised their hand, in fact, negligible. Mainly everyone said they were sending their kids to private school. I asked why. Because there is more accountability, they teach the kids with interest. Now you want a responsible teacher for your kids, you want a responsible doctor when you get sick, you want a lawyer who is loyal to you who attends to your job on time, then why don’t you be loyal as well. Don’t you think it is unfair that you don’t take responsibility and expect everybody else to be responsible? Usually we don’t think in these lines. We want everyone to be karma yogis, that is do their duty diligently, keeping the time and deliver. And when it comes to ourselves if we have a difference, we say we will do when we like, as is convenient to us. So just creating a little awareness made a big difference.
