Misery

Mind lives on more. Misery starts with "more and more". Misery makes you dense and gross. Self is subtle. To go from gross to subtle, you go through the finest relative... the atom. To overcome aversion, hatred, jealousy, attraction or entanglements, you have to go to the atom. Going to the atom means accepting a teeny tiny bit of all this. It may be difficult to accept something that you don't like but you can definitely accept a teeny tiny bit (an atom) of it. The moment you accept that one atom, you will see change happen. This has to be done in a meditative state. Suppose you love someone. You want more and more of them. Yet there is no fulfilment. In Anu Vrat (the vow of an atom), you take just one atom of that person and that is enough to bring fulfilment to you. Though the river is vast, a little sip quenches your thirst. Though Earth has so much food, just a little bite satisfies your hunger. All that you need is teeny tiny bits. Accept a teeny tiny bit of everything in life, which will bring you fulfilment. Stephano: What about trouble? Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: There is so much trouble in the world, you can accept just a teeny tiny part of it. Tonight, go to bed feeling that you are satisfied, taking a teeny tiny part of divinity with you. Satisfaction comes from the subtle and not from the "more and more". Question: What about giving? Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You take a teeny tiny part, and the rest you give away.

Even if one civilization, religion or culture goes missing, then there will be something missing in the world. Every culture and religion is part of the world heritage and we need to preserve all of them.

What Enhances Your Beauty?

When your mind is not complaining, responsible, courageous, confident and hollow and empty, you are inexplicably beautiful. A person who cannot correct or act has no right to complain. And when a person can correct or act, he will never complain. Complaining is a sign of weakness. Complaining is the nature of utter ignorance where one does not know the Self. Complaint takes away the Beauty that is inborn in you. And it shows up more on the one who is on this path. Worldly mind is a complaining mind; Divine mind is a dancing mind. Just complaining without indicating the solution is irresponsibility. When the solutions are not workable, finding alternative solutions is Courage. For external beauty, you put on things; for real Beauty, you have to drop all the things. For external beauty you have to have Make-up; for your real Beauty you only have to realise that you are MADE-UP!

QUESTION & ANSWER WITH GURUDEV

QUESTION & ANSWER WITH GURUDEV
POSTED ON: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2020

Q: Gurudev, why do we call Ganesha - Ekadanta?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Often, people have two tendencies, one for themselves and another for others. An elephant also has two tusks, one for showing and the other for chewing. It never shows the one it uses for chewing, and it never uses the one it shows for chewing. Similarly, people have two tendencies, they do not show who they are and they are not what they show. But Ganesha is not like that, it is Ekdanta, which has many meanings; danta means the one who gives, he is the only daata, giver. Ekadanta can also also mean someone who has one target, lakshya, and one face. All these qualities are focused into one, ekadanta.

Guru Is The Goal

Guru is nothing but wisdom and love. Guru is that principle which is wisdom and love, and that is awakened in each one who has stepped onto the path. You also call that person a Guru in whom there is no gap between life and wisdom and love. Often one recognizes wisdom but sees a gap between wisdom and one's own life. The purpose of becoming a disciple is to bridge that gap. Being with the Guru means spontaneous integration of life and wisdom.

Q: Gurudev, how to take complete responsibility yet not feel a sense of doership and feel pressured for results?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Look, forget about doer ship, just do what you have to do. Be a doer and do it, never mind. Don’t keep any split in the mind, just do good work. Even if you say, "I have done this", it’s okay, but first do. The rest we will see later.

KNOWLEDGE SHEET BY SRI SRI RAVISHANKAR

KNOWLEDGE SHEET BY SRI SRI RAVISHANKAR
POSTED ON: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2020

Two types of knowledge

There are two types of knowledge. The first one is pure knowledge and the second one is applied knowledge. Applied knowledge may benefit you directly and immediately but pure knowledge benefits you indirectly in the long run.

If there are some things that you have studied or understood that you are unable to put into practice, do not get disheartened. Sometime in the future, if you do not discard the knowledge you have as impractical, it will be of use to you.

Often people discard the pure knowledge for its lack of immediate application. In fact these two types of knowledge compliment each other. Applied knowledge without pure knowledge remains weak. And pure knowledge without application will remain unfulfilled.

Do not discard or label the knowledge as impractical. Do not label yourself as weak or unworthy because you are unable to apply the knowledge in your day-to-day life.

Sometimes when you are alone in nature, silent, taking a walk, looking at the sand on the beach, a bird in the sky, or while meditating – suddenly the knowledge will emerge and you will recognize the knowledge dawning in your life.

QUESTION & ANSWER WITH GURUDEV

QUESTION & ANSWER WITH GURUDEV
POSTED ON: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2020

Q: I am constantly shocked and very much angered by the racism and sexism that exists in my country. I live in the US. With all the racial violence and injustices going on it’s hard not to feel frightened or angry. How can I best help others to stop being so ignorant? I feel powerless sometimes.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Now tell me, by being angry, does it solve the problem? No. It will only enhance the problem. So that is where we need to work together. Alone you cannot do anything. Alone you will feel very helpless. But as a community, as a group of individuals who want peace, who want progress in society, who want happiness, we can work together. We can achieve that goal.

You know, when there were problems in Baltimore and Washington DC., some of our volunteers got together and reached out to the community. They spoke to them and taught them meditation. Similar efforts have been put in other places too.
So like that, there are so many opportunities for everyone of us to come together and work as a group. We can bring harmony and peace in society. That is possible. Don’t lose hope.
