The First Stamp of Independent India was issued on the 21st of November, 1947. It depicts the Indian Flag with the slogan, Jai Hind. It was valued at 3 1/2 annas. The second stamp depicts the Lion Capital of Asoka, the national emblem of India.A memorial to Mahatma Gandhi was issued 15 August 1948 on the first anniversary of Independence.
