Q: You have said that “In the excitement of achievement, people tend to lose their centeredness and sensitivity”. What is the way to get back to centeredness?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: The moment you realize this, the knowledge hits you, and you are already back. That is the utility of knowledge. You hear knowledge, contemplate on it, understand it, then at times it comes and hits you.
If you are a good meditator, any type of excitement becomes a burden. Whether it is positive or negative, any type of excitement is a disturbance. Any type of excitement is a burden.
You want to get out of it and find that peace, stillness, tranquility of mind that you have experienced. Right? But in spite of that, the mind goes wanting to have that excitement. Though it realizes, still it wants some excitement. Never mind! Eventually, it will understand and come back. This is where constantly reminding yourself of knowledge, wisdom and meditation would help. This is needed in fact. Constant remembrance.
All these big movements about women's rights and movements against corruption, peace march all these activities creates certain excitement. You can say even valour and excitement. But after a while the mind wants to come back to the stillness. How many of you have this experience? The mind wants to come back to the stillness. It is quite natural. So, does that mean you should never be in activity, only be in stillness? No. The mind can neither be in activity all the time, nor be in stillness all the time. Till it gets certain amount of maturity. So, on the path you need to balance both. So, pravruti and nivruti. Activity and rest, you have to balance.
