Q: In Saudi Arabia, if people get stoned, it is legal. But if some people bring up this point here it is called intolerance. How come this difference?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Remember one thing, there are so many people with so many ideas and so many opinions. Not all opinions are correct and you can’t correct all opinions. People have a right to express their ignorance.

Before Prime Minister Modi became the Prime Minister, there was such a storm in the country. Many big intellectuals said, "I will leave India and go away".
I think these are shortsighted opinions and shortsighted understanding. I wish our intellectuals have a little bit of intuition also, it can make them happier and it will bring more sense to what they say.

Intuitive ability should be developed, not just intellectual blabbering. When intuitive ability is there, what you say carries weight. Some people are questioning me, "Why did you say the dollar will become Rs.40?" It is not what I said, it is what the banks were saying. Of course, these things cannot happen overnight. But one thing is there, we are going in the right direction, but there is a long way to go. Not that the current government is doing everything right and that there are no flaws. If there are any flaws it needs to be corrected.

So, the intellectuals of this nation should come together and give concrete plans and suggestions to improve the country. Politics is another thing, keep politics aside. We are interested in a corruption free society, we are interested in development of every region, especially the neglected parts of society. This is what is needed and not just in India but in every part of the world. Change for the better should be welcomed.

What is currently happening in Syria, Egypt, Iraq, are all matters of concern for everyone. In these parts we need to bring more tolerance. All those who are talking about tolerance in this country should go and preach tolerance in these areas. Let them spread the message of peace and of oneness. This is needed today.

It is easy to get into conflicts and to even create conflicts. With just a few words you can make permanent enemies. It doesn’t take time. You may not even have such an intention and you end up making enemies. But it takes a lot to make friends.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
